World Day for Health and Safety at Work

Occupational health and safety are important aspects for a civilised world.

Since 1919 , the International Labou Organization, an agency of the United Nations, brings together governments, employers and workers from 187 Member States in order to open a dialogue to establish increasingly effective guidelines to protect security, humanitarian, political and economic principles recognizing the importance of social justice.

Founded in 1919 as part of the Treaty of Versailles, nine nations represented the Drafting Commission: Belgium, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, France, Italy, Japan, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

On 28/04/2022 the world day dedicated to health and safety at work was celebrated. Among the most significant events, held on this occasion, the Global Webinar is certainly illuminating  where the “Social Dialogue” was the central theme addressed with which to promote social justice and decent work.

The points touched during the webinar were the following:

• Building and maintaining a preventive culture of safety and health
• What is Social Dialogue
• At national level: the role of the social partners in building a preventive culture of safety and health
• The roles of employers and workers: key OSH rights and responsibilities

In addition , the ILO has produced a set of tools to support employers and workers in managing OSH risks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
